GREENLIGHT X IRTH

A woman wearing glasses and camouflage pants sits in a beige armchair, holding a small child with curly hair, wearing striped pajama pants, in her lap, in a room with yellow curtains and natural light.

MATERNAL HEALTH

GreenLight Fund helps businesses like Irth grow so they can continue to protect the maternal health of Black and Brown mothers in the US. As a Black mother who has dealt with the challenges of the health care system, this piece was especially close to my heart. I wanted to convey the strength of these mothers with unflinching, intimate portraiture and pointed audio interviews, interspersed with videos that felt like home movies. The shot was intimate in that it was just the subjects and me as I photographed, shot b-roll, and interviewed them for this piece in their homes with their families. The result is a piece that is grounded, captivating, and unflinching.
